Almost There

Only half a day's trip. Downhill and through that valley. North east. I couldn't wait to see the secret city of Lhasa.

Truck Drivers

Tough guys. Seriously tough guys. Very friendly. Always up for a joke. They insisted on taking this picture so there we are.

Turn Left

Just a little bit. I know that some of you might think that this is becoming a tourist holiday picture show. Almost. But, but, look at the lake. Isn't it just stunning? Remember the altitude? Turn around and you can see the valley that leads to Lhasa. I know you, as a reader you can't really turn around, that's why I'll do that for you. Very soon.

Yamdrok Tso

One of Tibet's largest lake, about 240 km or 150 miles in circumfence as seen from Khamba La pass at 4,900 meters or 16,000 feet altitude. The mountain that relaxes on the horizon is I think called Kula Kangri (correct me if I'm wrong) and behind it is the border to the Kingdom of Bhutan. Yamdrok Tso is, I believe, a salt water lake. That explains why only part of the lake is covered with ice. Nevertheless, we watched Tibetans sort of ice skcating on the lake. Bloody dangerous I say, but hey. Loads of "I think" and "I believe" in this post I know, but bear with me. It's been a while. And onwards to Lhasa.

On The Way To Lhasa

Finally on the way to the "secret" city . Early in the morning. It was very very very cold. As in, bloody European wimps can't stand it cold. I am serious here. Back on the trucks and back on the road. What a brilliant brilliant feeling. I promise not to repeat words too often in posts coming up.
